For fourteen years ECYS has served this community from hired rooms. Contracts are exchanged on our own building — a 7,764 sq ft former NHS clinic on Petersfield Avenue — and the deposit is paid. Now we raise the balance, together.

Harold Hill is a busy suburban district of the London Borough of Havering, and one of the more deprived areas of the capital — yet its Muslim community has grown steadily, with no mosque of its own.

One of Havering's main Madrasahs, teaching Qur'an, Qā'idah and Tajwīd to men, women and children across weekday and weekend classes. As the Centre grows, so does capacity.

A centre shaped around the community

Every room at the Petersfield Centre has a purpose. Here's how the 7,764 sq ft ground floor is planned out.

Worship

Main Prayer Hall, carpeted, with separate Ladies Areas and a Multi-Use Hall.

Education & youth

Multi-use hall for Madrasah, nursery and toddler groups, sports, workshops and events.

Health & welfare

Hijama, acupuncture and Ruqya rooms, counselling, a food bank and soup-kitchen servery.

Family & community

Imam's room for counselling and Nikah admin, a café servery, Islamic shop and reception.

Facilities

Gender-segregated wudhu and toilets, a gym with allocated times for sisters, and a Janazah Ghusl area.

Outdoors

A secure outdoor play area to the rear of the building.

The plan is oriented to the Qibla. Layout and room uses are indicative and subject to final design and approvals.

2011

A return, and the first lessons

Imam Muhammad Sabahul Haque returns to the UK and begins weekly lessons from his home in Harold Wood.

2012

The first Jumu'ah & Madrasah

Friday prayer and weekend Madrasah begin at the MyPlace community centre — half a row of worshippers, seven students.

2015

A charity is formed

ECYS is registered as a Company Limited by Guarantee, becoming a UK Registered Charity in 2017.

2019

A first dedicated space

ECYS leases a 1,000 sq ft unit as a Musallaa for daily prayers, classes and youth activities.

Born in Harold Wood in 1982, the sole resident Imam in Harold Hill. Graduate of the Faculty of Hadith, Islamic University of Al-Madinah. Chaplain to HM Prison Service for over twelve years, family counsellor, and a registered foster carer with Havering Council.

Yes. Contracts were exchanged on 9 April 2026 and a 10% deposit of £190,000 has been paid. We have until 9 January 2027 to raise the remaining balance and complete.
